Fire Destroys Metro East Furniture Store, 2 Other Businesses

(KSDK) – A Cottage Hills. Ill., furniture store less than one week away from closing its doors was destroyed by fire Thursday.
Furniture Wholesale Outlet, formerly called 140 Furniture, erupted in flames just after noon. The building is located at 40 West MacArthur Drive.


Two businesses that share the same building as the furniture store — Cottage Hills Beauty Shop and Clark’s Auto Repair and Supply — were also destroyed by the fire.
Crews from at least six area fire departments were called to the scene and several other departments were put on standby.
The roadway in front of the store was closed in both directions because of the proximity of the fire to passersby.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
