The fan vote contest was created by NASCAR to allow one driver, not currently eligible to race in the Challenge, an opportunity to secure the last position in the high profile event via fan vote.
Wallace was deemed the winner after capturing 67,416 votes of the 279,761 cast for the field of drivers participating in the contest, according to NASCAR.com.
Wallace and crew finished 18th in the NEXTEL OPEN; however, after winning the fan vote, the team was automatically granted a 21st starting position in the All-Star Challenge. Wallace dodged multiple wrecks to finish sixteenth in the Challenge.
