La Salle Furniture design award for young designer
The La Salle Furniture design award was formed as a result of collaboration between TAFE SA and South Australian commercial furniture manufacturer. La Salle supports South Australian furniture designers also. A total of ten students entered for the furniture design award according to the criterion that the furniture designed must be innovative, functional and commercially applicable and was won by young designer Scott Crouch of Murray Bridge for his design, Boxy Box Box.
The Boxy box box designed by this young designer is a stackable storage system with 12 boxes interlocked to form variety of shapes. The Boxy box box is in the form of bookshelf, room divider and TV cabinets.
The winning designer, Scott Crouch after receiving the award said that he wanted to create a piece of furniture that does not remain stagnant. The Boxy box box is an interactive piece which suits the lifestyle and changing environment of the consumers who use it.
Boxy box box was made from timber frame with dove-tail joints that connects the boxes together. The boxes are available in two colours. Ten boxes are made from white, while two are orange and all feature bamboo backing.
Scott’s design is a commercial viable product chosen for its simplicity. Other entries included a lighting unit, seating, entertainment unit and a cleaning trolley.
