Hateful voicemail left for furniture customer
By Jason Whitely
The voicemail startled LeKina Graham.
“It’s degrading,” she recalled.
“Take that f—ing bulls–t song off your voicemail for starters,” a young man’s voice said. “What a surprise. LaQuinta? That sounds like Kunta Kinte from Roots. F—ing b—h,” he continued.
“I knew there was racism out there but I didn’t think it would end up on my voicemail,” said Graham.
LeKina Graham never expected finding a new bedroom suit would be so trying.
She discovered an ad in the Greensheet for wholesale furniture, set up an appointment last Tuesday with the business owner, but says she had to skip it at the last minute to take her seven year old daughter to the doctor.
“This is a business,” she said. “Why would he leave a message like this?”
The voicemail lasts 12 seconds.
A man named Ryan left it.
He would not disclose his last name to 11 News or where his business is located on Rockley Road in southwest Houston.
Ryan did tell us Graham was inconsiderate for skipping their meeting and he said she deserved the scolding.
“I’m kind of disappointed of him being a business man, the way he reacted,” Graham explained. “If he left this message on my phone, how many other messages did he leave on everybody else’s phones?”
Though LaKina Graham doesn’t know much about Ryan or his wholesale furniture in southwest Houston, she hopes his hateful voicemail warns others to watch out.
