Furniture Broker going out of business
After 22 years, the Furniture Broker in Nipomo is going out of business.
“The furniture industry is horrible,” said general manager Cynthia Alvarez. “It is bad, bad, bad.”
The decision to close was made in January, Alvarez said. The store’s last day is expected to be sometime in April.
While there has been some increased competition locally, Alvarez said the slowdown, which started in 2016, is contributed to the economy in general.
Alvarez estimated business has declined 30 to 40 percent from previous years.
The store has eight employees, many of whom have been with the business for several years, Alvarez said. She has worked for owner Brent Gross – who bought the business in 1994 – for 10 years.
“It’s like losing my home,” said Alvarez. “We’re like a family here.”
